Haiku Checker

Terms of Use

The short version: the tools are free to use, results are estimates rather than guarantees, and you keep ownership of whatever you write.

The service

Haiku Checker provides free, browser-based tools for checking, generating, and rating haiku and related short poetry, along with educational content about the form. No account or payment is required to use any tool currently on this site.

Accuracy disclaimer

Syllable counts, structure checks, and literary analysis are produced by an automated system described in detail on the Accuracy & Methodology page. Results are estimates based on a pronunciation dictionary and documented rules — they are not guaranteed to be 100% accurate for every word, and literary judgments (imagery, haiku-vs-senryu, and similar) are inherently subjective. Use your own judgment, especially for graded or published work.

Acceptable use

Please don't use this site to submit content that is illegal, abusive, or intended to disrupt the service (including automated scraping at a volume that degrades performance for other users, or attempts to bypass rate limiting). We reserve the right to block access that violates this.

Content ownership

You retain full ownership of any poem or text you submit. We don't claim any rights to it, publish it, or use it to train models. Poems generated by the Haiku Generator are produced by recombining a bank of short template phrases — see the generator page for details — and are provided as a starting draft for you to edit and make your own.

Availability

The service is provided "as is," without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability. We aim for high reliability but don't promise the tools will always be accessible or error-free.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change in a meaningful way, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
